Nokia and China Mobile Explore AI for 5G - Port Technology International
July 10, 2018
Nokia and China Mobile agreed to jointly investigate the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in 5G networks.
The companies will establish a laboratory in Hangzhou, China to develop a demo system to test Nokia 5G Future X architecture.
China Mobile will lead the research into API standardisation and solution definition. The Port of Hamburg is exploring the potential benefits of 5G networks by carrying out tests with Nokia and Deutsche Telekom. It has found that 5G networks could provide seamless and standardisation communications, connecting vessels and improving user experiences.
A 5G network combines terrestrial and mobile networks to support a wide range of use cases with different speeds, latency, security and capacity requirements, which makes it vital for new application scenarios created by the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0.
Under the deal, Nokia and China Mobile will work together to research AI technology to test prediction capability, security and reliability.
Yuhong Huang, Deputy General Manager of China Mobile Research Institute, said "China Mobile has been paying attention to the application of artificial intelligence for a long time, and making effort to build an open and collaborative 5G+AI ecosystem.
“With the signing of this MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), we are pleased to t initiate the collaboration on the research of big data and machine learning technologies applying to 5G RAN network, and make joint effort in the O-RAN alliance which was kick offed recently to enhance the intelligence of 5G network, reduce the complexity, and explore the new capabilities of network."
