T-Mobile Sprint Merger Delayed by FCC Shutdown

January 7, 2019

The FCC has suspended its review of the proposed takeover of Sprint by T-Mobile US. The delay is a result of a wider suspension of operations at the FCC due the government shutdown and budget impasse in the US. T-Mobile had aimed to complete the deal first announced in April 2018 in the first half of 2019, but this is the second delay in the FCC's review of the merger.

The companies must also obtain clearance from the US Department of Justice, which handles competition cases. The FCC is currently accepting public comments still on the deal, and has received a wide range of comments, from industry and consumers. T-Mobile also continues to submit its own documents.
