Verizon eSIM Support Said To Arrive By Next Month

November 26, 2018

The iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR have dual SIM capability courtesy of the eSIM technology but Verizon users couldn’t take advantage of it because of lack of support from the carrier. It wasn’t ideal given that Verizon is the largest mobile carrier in the United States. It appears to be close to adding support for dual SIM and eSIM, though, it may happen by early next month.

When Apple confirmed dual SIM support for the new iPhones, it said that the eSIM technology will be supported by Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile. They’re the top three mobile carriers in the country. It didn’t work as expected on Verizon as only the physical SIM cardcould be used for the primary line.

Swapping it over the secondary line resulted in the service being downgraded to 2G instead of LTE. When this came to light, Verizon halted eSIM support as well, so full dual SIM capabilities were not immediately available. There may not be a long wait for this now, though. 9to5Mac has caught wind of a leaked internal memo from Verizon which informs employees that dual SIM support with an eSIM and physical SIM paired together should arrive by early December.
